Flower Facts: Anemone flowers are 'wildflowers' and every flower is unique. Please remember that flowers are living beings and that no two are exactly alike. Anemone flower stems have a natural wild bend and flowers are irregular in size and color.

As soon as you receive your flower box, bring it indoors and carefully open it. Make sure that your flowers are in good condition and that all the flowers you ordered are in the box. If you have any questions or concerns, call us immediately at 1-800-277-0215.

Instructions for Fresh Flower Care
To ensure your flowers will be at their most beautiful and healthiest, follow these steps:

  • For your bulk flowers, you will need to recut the bottom of the stems to encourage your flowers to re-hydrate after their long journey. Cut the bottom inch of the flower stems diagonally on a cutting board with a sharp knife or better yet, if the stems are woody, trim them with garden shears in a tub of water. Underwater cutting is best for floral health.

  • As you are trimming the bottom of the stems, you are best to remove most of the leaves off the stems. First of all, you do not want the foliage to touch the water as this encourages earlier wilting.  The other reason to remove most of the foliage on your flowers’ leaves: foliage dies before flowers so even if your bouquets are still beautiful after 4 days, the leaves will be dead and make the rest of the bouquet look bad. Avoid this problem by simply removing all but the top leaves on all your flower stems.

  • Place your re-cut flowers in buckets, in a solution of flower food and water immediately after trimming them.

  • Wait at least 4 hours before using your flowers. Let them rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight before starting to work with your flowers. At this point your flowers should be well re-hydrated.

  • Store your flowers in the coolest area of your home. 40 degrees F (4C) is ideal but temperatures of 30-50 are acceptable. Do not let direct sunlight touch your flowers. Also, keep your flowers away from heaters, drafts or air condition ducts. The cooler, the better.

  • Change the water every 24-48 hours to ensure your flowers are well hydrated. If you are using flower food, you can change the water less often than if you use no preservative. The flowers will drink lots of water, especially on the first night of re-hydration. So, check the water level frequently.

  • If you need certain flowers to open quickly, once the flowers have re-hydrated overnight, you can put the flower bucket in a warm area, outside or inside to help the flower blooms to open faster. On the other hand, if you need the flowers to keep longer without opening too much, store them in a refrigerated area.

  • Remember that flowers are living beings. If the color is not perfect on every inch of your flowers, nature was working its magic on making each bloom unique. Also, not every flower in a bunch will open as big as the other. Some buds never fully open but this only adds to the variety and beauty of the live bouquets.
